Opto Property Group looks to the future with student work placements

As well as taking an innovative, sustainable approach to construction, our main priorities here at Opto Property Group include supporting local communities and nurturing the next generation of professionals in our industry.

Since most of Opto Property Group’s projects are based in Luton, we believe that one of the most valuable ways to contribute to the area and aid the ongoing development of the construction sector is by offering work placements to students from the University of Bedfordshire.

This has provided opportunities for individuals such as Itai Kagodora, who took part in a three-month business placement with Opto Property Group as part of a final dissertation project for his master’s degree in project management.

From placement to permanent role

Itai’s relationship with Opto Property Group began when he visited the Opto Village student development for a briefing by the company’s managing director, Jerald Solis, as part of a course assignment.

At a work experience open day, Itai met some of Opto’s directors as well as Nikki Spyropoulou, a former University of Bedfordshire student now working for the company.
Following an interview, he was invited to take part in a business placement that allowed him to learn from the team while continuing to work on his dissertation project report.

Itai said: “I learnt a lot from this experience and developed new skills and those already acquired from my learning across all three departments: design, commercial and build.”

The Opto Property Group team were so impressed with Itai’s work ethic and skills that the company offered him a permanent role, which he happily accepted.

A bright future

We believe Itai has an exciting future ahead of him and have therefore put him forward for the Professional Development Programme run by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Opto Property Group’s development director Matt Day commented: “We are proud to support Itai with his ongoing professional development by sponsoring him towards achieving Chartered status with the CIOB.”

Looking to the future, Opto Property Group will maintain strong links with the University of Bedfordshire in the hope that many more students and graduates will follow in Itai’s footsteps in the years and decades to come.

We hope this will help to ensure a strong and sustainable future for the local community and the construction industry as a whole.
